History

History fires students curiosity and imagination, moving and inspiring them with the dilemmas, choices and beliefs of people in the past. It helps students develop their own identities through an understanding of history at personal, local, national and international levels. Through studying the past and questioning events we develop our own decision making skills, making us more rounded individuals.
Students find out about the history of their community, Britain, Europe and the world. They investigate Britain's relationships with the wider world, and relate past events to the present day.
As they develop their understanding of the nature of historical study, students ask and answer important questions and evaluate evidence in order back up their opinions.

History at Key Stage 3

In Year 7 History is taught in integrated humanities lessons alongside Geography and Religious Education.  Students work individually, in pairs and in groups on a variety of themed topics like Beginnings and Disasters.

In years 8 and 9 students investigate Modern World topics like World War 1 and World War 2 and also the issues of the wider world like Slavery, 19th Century Living Conditions and the French Revolution.

History at Key Stage 4

Students taking GCSE History will follow the new AQA specification B.  They study the social, emotional and economical impacts of war on both Europe and the wider world. They will begin to question the decisions of History’s leaders and to offer alternatives. A controlled assessment unit provides students with an opportunity to showcase their own knowledge and to pursue particular areas of interest.

At Palatine the History department believes it prepares pupils for the future, equipping them with knowledge and skills that are prized in adult life, enhancing employability and developing an ability to take part in a democratic and multi-cultural society.
