English KS3

Key Stage 3

At KS3 the English Faculty has developed schemes of work which address the objectives as outlined in the Secondary Strategy.

In Year 7, students complete the following units of work:-

  • Transition from Year 6
  • Autobiography/Biography
  • Shared Text
  • Language Study – KAL/Shakespeare
  • Fables/Story form and structure
  • Poetry
  • Media

Year 7 students are taught their English lessons in the specially adapted Learning Base. This aids their progression from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3. The English lessons are designed to incorporate drama, art, music, reading, writing and ICT.

Once a week, students in Year 7 are invited to come to the Book Café and discuss their favourite books with other Year 7 students.

In Year 8, students complete the following units of work:-

  • Poetry 
  • "A Christmas Carol" 
  • Crime and horror - Narrative Writing 
  • The cult of a celebrity 
  • Shared Text
  • Superheroes 

In Year 9, students complete the following units of work:-

  • Shared Text
  • 'Much Ado About Nothing'
  • Inform, Explain, Describe
  • Anaylse, Review, Comment
  • Imagine, Explore, Entertain
  • Argue, Persuade, Advise
  • Reading Booster
  • Poetry Comparison
  • Gothic Horror
