Curriculum Overview

At both Key stage 3 and Key stage 4 students enjoy 3 x 1 hour lessons each week although some classes have an extra hour or enjoy a functional skills lesson. At Key stage 3 we follow the New Curriculum. This ensures that students experience a variety of lessons and learn how to develop skills such as reasoning and communication amongst many others. We also look to use many resources such as Bowland maths as a method of introducing different concepts and ideas into the lesson as well as ICT. We are also looking at ways that we can introduce APP (Assessing Pupil Progress) at Key stage 3 in order to ensure that students levels are as secure as possible.

At key stage 4 we follow the modular Edexcel scheme with examinations currently taking place throughout year 10 and year 11. The examination timetable for 20011-12 is as follows;

Year 10 Number & Algebra Exam - 5th March 2012 (worth 30%)

Year 10 Data Handling Exam - 11th June 2012 (worth 30%)

Year 11 Terminal exam 19th June 2012

Curriculum Enhancement

This year we have been looking to enhance the curriculum as much as possible by introducing out of lesson activities where possible. We hope that Year 7 students will attend a ‘Math-a-Magic’ day at the Catalyst Scientific Discovery Centre in Widnes.

Useful Websites

As a school we have access to a number of websites that can be used by students at home. The sites at the right of the page are useful to parents also and some have a specific parents link.

Welcome to Palatine Sports College ICT department.

Information and communication technologies are now a crucial part of modern life. The ICT department aims to prepare students for a technological world in which ICT touches every part of their daily lives. The ICT department is always prepared to take on new initatives as we believe that students deserve to be exposed to the latest technology in order to prepare them for the outside world.

Palatine Sports College provides a varied and challenging ICT curriculum to develop practical ICT skills and promote knowledge and understanding of ICT systems.

ICT is used throughout the school both in teaching and learning, all classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards. The school has six dedicated ICT suites. ICT suites are always being used, either for ICT lessons, or where other subjects book the ICT suites so that they can use our excellent facilities too. The school also has laptop trolleys that are used in faculties to enhance the use of ICT across the curriculum.

We also run an ICT Student Council where pupils are invited to have their say.
