Design Technology - KS4

Key Stage 4

The Design Technology Faculty uses AQA as the examining body for our GCSE subjects, and grades are awarded for the completion of 2 Units which are essentially 60% for the Coursework and 40% on a written examination which tests knowledge and understanding.  The Coursework is a Design and Make Controlled Assignment which has been set by the board, and pupils must satisfy a brief by completing a Design folder of approximately 20 A3 sheets and make the end product.

The following subjects are currently available as GCSE options:

Design and Technology Food.
Design and Technology Graphic Products.
Design and Technology Resistant Materials.
Design and Technology Textiles.

The Faculty has an impressive record of achievement for students at GCSE and this can only be enhanced with the recent addition of extra ICT facilities and better quality CAD/CAM equipment.

At the end of the two year course the Faculty Communal Area is used to provide parents, students and other members of the community the opportunity to view the quality of work being produced in an annual exhibition.

Should additional information relating to the curriculum be required, please contact Mr A Gavagan on 01253 336500.
