Art

Our well-appointed Art Department offers an extensive curriculum covering many aspects of art and design. At KS3 students work in a variety of media and materials and are encouraged to express themselves and create innovative and high quality work. G.C.S.E art is extremely popular and successful with the average A*-C passes in the last 5 years being 75%. We pride ourselves on producing individual, independent and innovative work.

We have extra curricular opportunities available for both KS3 and KS4 students as well as regular art workshops and competitions. Annually we exhibit our pupils work at the ‘Grundy Art Gallery’ in the Seasider’s exhibition

Take a look at our students' work in our gallery sections.

Art History

By teaching students about various aspects of art history, we enable them to view works of art from an historical standpoint, and thereby to appreciate them in context. This important evaluative skill can be used in many other subject areas, as it allows students to think about an issue according to a certain set of principles.

Critical Evaluation

We aim to challenge our students' creative preconceptions, to nurture independent thought and to support their artistic ideas. In doing so, they learn to look at their work, and the work of others, in a critical and analytical light. This helps to shape their outlook on other academic subjects, and on the wider world.
