The Physical Education Faculty has 11 full time members of staff, a student sport support officer, a graduate teacher trainee and a number of student teachers who throughout the year are all training to become Physical Education practitioners.
The Physical Education faculty is now in its fourth year of Sports College status. This status has enabled us to examine our curriculum opportunities and we strive to allow our pupils to develop as performers, coaches, umpires and sporting leaders.
The key focus of the curriculum is to develop our pupils into independent learners both practically and academically. This is done through a range of teaching styles, equipment and sporting activities. We value the need to offer pupils both competitive and recreational activities, team and individual sports and through our curriculum work encourage pupils to take part in out of hours learning at school and to join local sporting groups.
We assess our pupils on a regular basis and actively promote the use of peer and self assessment. We feel it is vital that our pupils understand why they are involved in the activities, what it is they are trying to achieve and to discuss with each pupil how they are going to achieve their targets. All pupils set themselves targets which are reviewed in order to ensure that progress and achievement are recognised and rewarded.
The success and participation of our pupils is celebrated with a SPORTS AWARDS evening at the end of the school year.
