OPENING CEREMONY – CYCLE TRACK

On Saturday 2nd July, Palatine held the official opening of our new Cycle Track.  Palatine Headteacher Chris Powell, Cllr Graham Cain (Cabinet Member for Tourism and Culture), Charles Jackson (British Cycling) and Terry Byrne (World Champion Paralympian Cyclist) were present at the ceremony.

The Cycle Track was funded by British Cycling and Sports England.  The new £300,000 facility will further support the fantastic developments already taking place on the Palatine Campus.

The Cycle facilities will support students at the school and will further promote links within the Community.
In partnership with the school’s Trust Partner NHS Blackpool, and supporting the school’s ideals, it will also help to improve the health and well-being of our community.

The Headteacher had previously been quoted in the media:

‘This is a wonderful opportunity for Palatine students and indeed for the Community of Blackpool.  I am passionate about engaging students in extra-curricular opportunities and this is yet another chance for them to get involved.  The Palatine Campus is really developing into something special – the Cycle Track complements the other facilities that we already have on the site.  The timing of the Cycling Track is also fantastic; the London Olympics is on the horizon and hopefully we can use this opportunity to make Palatine the hub of Track Cycling in the North West’.
