History Trip to the Imperial War Museum

On Tuesday the 24th of November a group of 40 Year 11 students set out for the Imperial War Museum North in Manchester’s Salford Quays.

Highlights of the visit included the ‘Children and War Big Picture Show’, where the whole of the main exhibition area became a 360° audio-visual experience focusing on Children’s perspectives of the Second World War.  Captured, was a special exhibition on the experiences of prisoners of war during the Second World War where several students tried out the interactive displays, trying to send Morse code messages and experiencing the confines of a POW tunnel!

Another favourite was a display from the trenches where students had to guess the smell…making them realize that after several months they were far from fresh! They are also enjoying tricking Miss Ingham into having a good sniff!

The visit was a resounding success with the students seeing much of the material they study for GCSE History come to life.
