Key Policies
STUDENT ENTITLEMENT AND REWARDS
Attendance and Punctuality
Students will receive 25 house points if they attend 100% of a half term and 25 house points if they are on time 100%. If they are absent for one day or late for one day then they do not receive any house points.
House Points
In all years students can be awarded 'house points' for outstanding work or effort in class. Teachers use their own judgement to award house points, for example, 5 can be awarded for an outstanding piece of work.
Curriculum Commendations
In Years 9, 10, 11 pupils will receive a curriculum commendation from their teacher if they consistently produce high quality work over a half term, put in maximum effort over a half term and approach their studies with a positive attitude. Each Curriculum Commendation is worth 5 House points. A letter will be sent home informing parents of the commendation and a draw will take place at the end of each half term to win vouchers.
Extra Curricular Clubs
Students will receive 1 house point for attending a club
Representing the School (to an external audience or competition)
Students to receive 5 house points for representing the school
Interhouse Events
Students receive 1 house point for participating in an event
Headteacher Award
Students receive 10 House Points for a Headteacher referral and a letter sent home.
Learner of the Lesson
Every lesson the member of staff has to select a “Learner of the Lesson”. This should be a student who has worked hard throughout the lesson, they may have produced good work, or they may have behaved exceptionally for them. The Learner of the Lesson will receive a special pass which they can give to their form tutor who will update a tally chart. Each pass is made into five house points at the end of the term.
Rewards
Rewards Trip
To run every half term with students who deserve to go. House Hero’s, 100% students, top curriculum house point achievers.
Achievement Evening
Excellence and Progress awards given to students identified by the Heads of Faculty for their work over the year.
The top House Point student in each year group will receive a trophy and certificate at Achievement Evening. The second and third placed pupils will receive a certificate.
Sports Awards Evening
Each Head of House to select one student from each year group who contributed significantly to the interhouse sporting events to receive a trophy.
Prizes
There are a range of levels that the students can collect prizes for which are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
House points prizes for students in year eleven are focussed on their end of year 'prom' and the pupils can exchange house points for free beauty treatments or soft drink vouchers for the evening.
Pride of Palatine
Each half term form tutors will select their tutor groups 'Pride of Palatine'. This student should be someone who is an excellent role model, follows the school rules, represents the school in a positive manner, takes part in all aspects of school life and or has made vast improvements in areas that where a problem previously. The Pride of Palatine gets to go on the rewards trip, has a letter sent home and has their photo and positive comment from form tutors displayed in school.
House Competition
The winning house all get to go on a trip in September (when final results are in but also to motivate and raise the profile of the House System at the start of the new academic year.)
All students in the winning house get a gold star that they pin onto their uniform (like the world cup) to show that they were part of the winning team.
A large plaque is displayed in school and the winning house name is engraved on the plague to form a legacy of winning houses.
