SAM Learning is the most popular revision website in secondary schools. It has helped in raising attainment for over 3.4 million students over the last seven years. Last year students who used SAM Learning were more likely to achieve 5 or more passes at GCSE compared to those that didn't! The "extra marks" gained from using SAM Learning were the equivalent of one-quarter of a GCSE grade in each subject, and the same is true for levels at Key Stage 3.
As a school we have purchased Sam Learning for the second year running, to support all pupils in raising attainment. Students are able to access the service at anytime and anywhere. It is available to them in school, but also at home, at Palatine library and the community centre. All they need to do is visit the website and enter their unique login details.
The website allows students to practice exam papers and revision; it helps them to improve exam technique, confidence and results. The website can also be used to complete homework. This can now be set using SAM Learning. All students are able to access assignments via their personal homepage and view homework tasks in the ‘My Homework’ tab. This tab shows when the homework is due to be completed, if it is has not been completed and also if it is overdue.
All completed homework is either computer or self marked, depending on the type of work set. There is instant feedback, and scores can be viewed by students, parents or teachers in the ‘My Progress’ tab for the Last Homework Set (LHS). All staff receive a report on the homework that is completed by each student. Students are also able to re-visit homework activities if they wish to improve on their last score. Another advantage is that students are able to share their homework successes with their parents.
