Work Experience
Timetable for Palatine Work Experience 2010
January 20th (SLD3) – Year 10 students will be given their access pin number, advice on using the LEBP database and opportunity to look at and select work placements. This database can be accessed from any internet connected computer via http://www.learnaboutwork.org/lancs/EnterSchool.asp.
Students will also be given a Health Form and a Step-by-Step guide to using the database. Any students wishing to find their own placement will be given a Self-Placement form. For your convenience, copies of these forms can be downloaded on the left hand side of this page.
April 20th – Last day for Self-Placements to be given in. Use Easter as a time to find a suitable placement.
April 26th. The database will be locked to students so all job selections must have been made by now, as during this week LEBP will set the database to automatically place students to jobs.
April 23rd – Job Description Forms (Whites) will be made available to students to get signed and approved.
May 3rd – Employers will be sent a Yellow form notifying them of the students coming to their placements. These Yellows give employers opportunity to comment on students and are completed after the placement and sent to LEBP who then pass them on to school for students records.
May 19th – All Health Forms need to be in.
May 14th (SLD5), all Year 10 students will receive their Work Experience handbooks and advice on how to use them, plus how to access the LEBP Student Voice questionnaire and be given a final reminder of their Health & Safety responsibilities whilst at work.
May 21st, Year 10 Open Evening. LEBP will be available to talk to students and parents about the Student Voice questionnaire and answer any other questions regarding Work Experience.
June 14th Work Experience starts
June 21st Back to school.

Step-by-Step Guide to choosing Work Placement
You choose SIX different placements …
and I will do my best to make sure that you get one of them.
CAUTION:
-
Do not select the same job more than once – it doesn’t improve your chances it actually lessens your chance of getting that job.
-
Do not select the same kind of job over and over again – open your options up to other areas of work, this is the REAL WORLD and sometimes we have to do something else first to get to where we really want to be.
-
Your future employers will be impressed that you did Work Experience regardless of where it was.
-
Even if you are planning on getting a Self Placement you should still select SIX jobs – just in case your placement falls through you can still have a choice and not be last to look at what’s left.
