Primary Liaison

At Palatine we are committed to providing a wide range of enriching opportunities and activities for our local primary schools. We are passionate about developing strong links with all local primary schools to help younger children settle in to secondary school in a confident and settled manner.

Since September 2009 we have offered primary schools a “Year Six SATs Revision Morning” which have worked extremely well.  Thames and Haweside joined us for a morning of intensive revision to help them in the tests that they were taking at Primary Schools later in the year. Very positive feedback has been recieved from both primary school and students.  We also offer primary schools the opportunity to come and see our performances in Expressive Arts such as our Christmas and Summer Shows. Toward the end of each year we run a series of highly successful “Year 5” days which provide year five pupils from a number of different schools with a fantastic, positive experience of secondary school.

Throughout June/July 2010 we developed and increased the induction programme for year 6 students and they are now all welcomed at Palatine for 4 days, as opposed to the traditional 1 day.  We hope this helps ease the transition from primary to secondary school and supports the students in becoming familair with the "Palatine Way".    This annual approach continues to be effective in supporting the  transition into Palatine from September 2012 onwards.

As we are a sports college we have members of staff who work with primary schools and run sporting activities and clubs actually in primary schools. As well as this we also offer Literacy support.

The school is committed to providing a wide range of opportunities for all local primary school students. The Headteacher, Head of Year Seven and the Learning Mentor make regular visits to primary schools to build strong and productive partnerships and gather as much information about how we can meet individual students’ needs before they may start at Palatine.
